BJ Sellers Announces Gulfport City Council Campaign for Ward Five
After Almost 20 years on Planning Commission, Asks Voters to Consider Him to Represent Taxpayers
Gulfport, MS – BJ Sellers, a current Gulfport Planning Commission member, engineer, and manager for a local construction company, today announced that he was throwing his hat in the Republican primary ring for Ward Five of the Gulfport City Council. The Republican has been responsible for the development of plans and regulations that result in thriving and livable neighborhoods, efficient buildings, and enhanced economic development opportunities for almost 20 years.
Sellers stated, “My entire life has been spent building highways, roads, and parking lots for others to get where they want to go. As a city, Gulfport has places it wants to go as well. But we need to ensure that we continue a strong foundation of fiscal responsibility, low taxes, and a quality of life that is the envy of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. That is why I want to represent the citizens of Ward Five.”
Sellers commented, “I’ve learned from my years on the Planning Commission that someone has to make the hard decisions to keep our city growing in a positive direction, but always with the taxpayers in mind. It’s never easy when someone disagrees with you, but our city leaders need to work for all of the taxpayers. We can’t just allow the self-chosen few to outweigh the rest of the voters of Gulfport. That is why my pledge to the voters of Ward Five is to work for all of us.”
Sellers continued, “Whether it is a family, a business, or a community organization in Gulfport – my door will be open to you. I know that our city has a few challenges it has to address immediately, and I am ready to tackle those on Day One. But we have some growing problems on the horizon that need to also be addressed, and I will be asking for input from the taxpayers of Gulfport as we begin to tackle these as well.”
Sellers concluded, “With the planned retirement of the current city council member, I have been asked by local business and community leaders to step into the role. Having discussed it with my family, friends, and workplace, I am announcing that I am seeking the Republican nomination for Ward Five City Councilman in the upcoming Republican primary in April. I humbly ask for the vote and support of the voters this coming April.”
Ward Five stretches across the eastern area of Gulfport from the northern city limits down to Pass Road, including the fast growing Cowan Lorraine corridor. Current City Councilman Myles Sharp is not expected to run for re-election to this seat. For more information visit www.BJSellers.com
